Founded in Bulgaria in 1998, to date the company has built more than 250 000sq.m. of climbing walls in 50 countries on 6 continents.
Walltopia builds climbing walls for the private, public and non-profit sectors, striving to provide the most up-to-date design and technology. The company is committed to continuous improvement of its operation and expansion of its portfolio of products and services in order to ensure high quality and contribution to client's success.
Walltopia constantly upgrades the artificial caves we offer in order to make them more fun and enhance the experience for the end-users. We develop new obstacles (like the recent addition of the Bridge and the Spider Net) and we add gamification features - our caves are currently the only ones on the market to offer the option of in-built educational games.
But the most important thing we focus on is safety. Artificial caves are by default, complex structures and require attention to details, in order to get things right. That is why our teams are making sure every element of potential danger is eliminated in the first place.
One of the ways we make sure our caves are safe is by carefully choosing materials used in the fiberglass structure. Every cave that Walltopia produces is made with fire-retardant GRP, which significantly reduces the risk of fire spreading through the tunnels and caverns. This is what allowed our caves to comply with the European standard EN 13501-1:2018.

Konstantin Karamfilov joined Walltopia in 2018 as Architect and Product Manager of Active entertainment products. Prior to Walltopia, Konstantin has been working for The Walt Disney Company in Paris, France, and ARCAS Architecture and Urbanism Paris headed by Maurice Culot, one of the students of Frank Lloyd Wright and Paolo Soleri. He is a graduate from the ECOLE NATIONAL SUPERIEURE D’ARCHITECTURE Paris-Belleville and is a member of the French Architects Association (Ordre des architects). Two of his favorite architects are Santiago Calatrava and Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe.
WT: What has been your most rewarding project since you joined Walltopia and why?
K: The Tree Course for sure. It was also the first big project I was given, almost immediately after I joined the company. It was a big challenge as back then I wasn’t very familiar with the rope courses as a product. At the same time, I had to create something that doesn’t exist and to look at this from functionality and design. Except that I am proud of the end result, its complexity allowed me to explore and solve problems that I haven’t met before.
WT: What was The Tree course‘s starting point for you and the one thing you did not want to make any compromise with?
K: - My starting point was to abandon the “form follows function” approach and think of a new nature-inspired architectural design that can become an anchor attraction for amusement parks. The goal was to create a Structural Sculpture with a small footprint that will combine the functionalities of the classical ropes course with a visually striking and appealing design. So I can say the most important thing for me and the main driver of the project, was the visual aspect and I didn’t want to make any compromise with. The design of the course brought lots of challenges to the engineers but I am happy that we found a way to overcome those.
WT: To us, the Tree Course combines two categories in itself - the traditional ropes course and the new active entertainment trend. What’s the difference between them?
K: - That is true. The classical ropes course as I already mentioned is more oriented to a “form follows function” approach. They are high, industrial structures that are made to be functional and the designs are not that important (that’s why they look very similar, no matter who has manufactured them). On the other hand, we see the new active entertainment trend that is trying to enhance further the classical experience of the visitors with the introduction of innovative design, storytelling and theming. Those elements help visitors develop an emotional connection with the places or attractions they visit. In the Tree Course project, it was the nature that inspired us. If you think about it, trees are very similar to obstacle courses – you have to climb the trunk, then reach the branches that have different forms, you have to choose the right spot on every step to reach the top where you can have a great view and see everything around. So we tried to combine those two experiences with the idea that when people visit the Tree Course it feels like they are coming to climb an enormous tree with a variety of obstacles with different levels of difficulty. And when you reach the top of the tree a big platform awaits for you where you can have a break, take a photo, enjoy the view or even take a flight back to the ground. By the way, the platform organization was inspired by structures that many kids build with their parents on the trees in their backyards.
WT: What is the one thing you like most in the Walltopia Architecture & Design department?
K: Definitely the dynamic environment. I work on many projects and with many clients in a constant search for new ways to combine or reinvent our products to better respond to their needs. That makes every day different and gives me a feeling of constant learning and exploration.
WT: Any exciting new products you are working on at the moment?
K: The Rollglider Hub, definitely. It will help us expand our “tree forest catalog”. I have just started working on this one but I’m super excited about it as it will be the most complex attraction that we have ever done. So stay tuned!
Ropes courses are a classic – they have been around for a while and are a favorite of both kids and adults. But as with any attraction, with time people get a bit too familiar with it.
Walltopia’s team has always had a dream of revolutionizing the ropes course and giving it a new image to correspond to the awe that the course experience brings. After many years of exploring various options, we have finally transformed our dream into reality.
We are officially announcing the Walltopia Tree Course – an unprecedented ropes course attraction with the potential to become the anchor attraction at every entertainment facility.
The Tree Course design is inspired by nature but founded on futuristic elements that make the structure stand out as a piece of art. Its outstanding look makes it the first attraction that people notice and remember at any entertainment facility.
Single or multi-level models
Apart from its awe-provoking looks, the Tree Couse is also practical by design. The structure can be built with 1 to 3 levels to achieve high throughput. The design allows visitors to flow between different obstacles effortlessly and facilitates operation. Some models can feature a viewing deck which increases the momentum capacity and profitability of the attraction.
The Tree Course can be designed with a specific theme, both to fit the style of other attractions in a facility, or to stand out by itself.

Walltopia’s expertise in the climbing industry and specifically in the design of rock-realistic climbing walls has naturally led to the idea of building artificial caves. To this day, we have installed 17 projects worldwide, one of them being Green Box in Beijing, China, which is the largest artificial cave in the world.
We are also the first company to produce walking exploration caves and integrate them with the Gamifier – a gamification system by our partners at Techtopia.
This year at the IAAPA Expo visitors at our booth #1686 will have the chance to experience one of our caves in real life. The model we’re showcasing features both walking exploration and gamification.
Edutainment in practice
The walking exploration cave consists of chambers that resemble real caverns. It offers an educational caving experience – the participants walk through various rock formations and learn about the underground world just as if it was formed by nature.
Level up visitors’ experience with Gamifier
The Gamifier is an interactive scoring platform that applies gamification principles to the world of active entertainment increasing the number of repeatable visits. When a Gamifier is integrated into a Walltopia Cave, it enhances the entire caving experience and makes it much more interactive. It features many fun games, a scoring system, and competitive modes. At the same time, the Gamifier has educational benefits, as many of its games are focused on acquiring knowledge about nature’s wonders. One of our favorite games is searching for and collecting fossils – the more you discover, the more points you score.

This is why we strive to constantly upgrade our Fun Walls portfolio and introduce exciting models that develop both the physical and cognitive skills of children. Hybrid Rollglider trolley
The Hybrid Rollglider will merge the best features of the Gravity and Electric versions of the ride. It will allow for higher speed rides and eliminates extra operational hassle.
We’re always seeking new ways to make the Rollglider ride safer, more comfortable and enjoyable. This is why we have developed a new seat that will transform participants’ experience for the better.
Choosing the right mix of attractions for your FEC can be a real challenge. It brings up a dozen of questions, two of which are essential:
How fun and how profitable would that new attraction will be?
The profitability can be discussed out of the comfort of your office as it is all in the numbers. But when it comes to the fun part, in order to decide, you either have to experience the attraction for yourself, or see other people doing it.
This is why for the IAAPA Expo‘19 we decided to go beyond a traditional booth and build a small FEC instead. On a 5500 ft2 facility, you will have a chance to experience all of our famous projects - Ropes Course, Ninja Course, Fun Walls, Rollglider and artificial cave.
We’ll be building this from scratch for 5 days to be ready for the official show dates: 19-22 November at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
